SUMMER SEWING

Summer Dress
With Christmas behind us and New Year approaching it's time to think forward to January and school holiday classes.

The Summer Dressmaking classes are designed for the girls to begin sewing their own clothes. The Summer Sewing Classes are designed to learn or to revise machine sewing and hand sewing skills.

I am keeping the class numbers down to five and have increased the time to allow us to learn and enjoy in a relaxed atmosphere.  The girls don't need any experience for these classes.

To book please call or text on 0414644684 or email to juliehinkssewingstudio@gmail.com

Gentle Rythym

My life has settled into a gentle rhythm.  It is wonderful to reach a time in your life when you can make choices of how you would like to spend your days.  I have always wished to become more self sufficient , to spend my days baking, gardening, sewing  and working around the home. To choose not to buy stuff and to live a more frugal and satisfying life. I receive great pleasure for example ( thanks to Rhonda Hetzel and her wonderful book "Down to Earth" from making my own laundry liquid, cooking from scratch and eating what I grow in the garden.

Sundays are for relaxing with my husband, Rod........ to enjoy the view from our outdoor area as we read the Sunday papers and wind down after a busy week.

Mondays for household chores, shopping, etc etc

Tuesdays are for, designing, creating, sewing and pattern writing in preparation for upcoming classes.

I teach in my Studio Wednesday , Thursday and Saturday and in Fridays I teach at Sewco Sewing and Patchwork at Mt Gravatt.

I am on the left with Di Taylor, Debbie Goulter ( the creator of this wonderful quilt ) and Desley Black.

Life is a delight and I am enjoying the gentle rhythm of the days doing what I love.

SEWING ROOM SHAKE UP

The time has come to tackle the out of control fabric in my sewing room.  I can no longer remember what I have stored in which place and there is no longer any order to how the shelves are stacked ........

The decisions are always to store in colour, fabric type, designers, ..........????? Too many choices.

My aim by the end of the day is too have restored some semblance of order, hopefully to rediscover some forgotten fabrics and to be back to my great love of stitching and creating.

THE BIG MOVE AND THE CULMINATION OF A DREAM

Until April this year, my Sewing Studio was in the large lounge of a lovely post war home in North Ipswich, which I shared with my husband, Rod's  - "Ipswich City Acupuncture" business.  After a particularly busy children's school holiday patchwork class, where Rod's patients had to step around very excited budding patchworkers, we decided that it as time for me to finally fulfil my dream of having a Sewing Studio at home.

My new Sewing Studio

So here we are in Pine Mountain.  I started classes at the beginning of May and am loving the bright , open airy new space.  If a student needs something , it is now at my fingertips  ( or will be once I get my sewing room organised).  I have three tables with lots of room for six students, three cutting tables and two irons and boards. The students have their own bathroom and a lovely big space on which to lay out a quilt, while we decide where the blocks should go.  There is plenty of parking out the front and as we live on acreage it is always delightfully peaceful.

Life is perfect!!!!!!!
